| alpha October 15, 2003 11:22 AM PDT Ak: Which school makes you write stories? Cool! | ||
| alpha October 15, 2003 11:21 AM PDT Zap: Is that your best pick-up line? Anyways, thot this might interest you- Cockles are a type of bivalve mollusc, once a staple part of the diet for many British people (you may recall that Sweet Molly Malone once wheeled her wheelbarrow through Dublin’s fair city, crying “cockles and mussels, alive, alive oh!”). (coutesy: didn't make that up) | ||
| akanksha October 15, 2003 06:48 AM PDT haven't read it as yet, but i always admired this particular style of writing, less work 4 the author ,:-D, to finish up the story,personally , i have had loads of trouble finishing off a story(in school, where else,:-))but i got 0 4 those assignments,rather than a pulitzer!!;-) | ||
| Zap October 14, 2003 10:15 PM PDT you! yes you..you warm the cockles of my heart. | ||
| alpha October 14, 2003 10:30 AM PDT maybe her son will be available after 15 years, Khotta. | ||
| khottA October 14, 2003 10:25 AM PDT now first glance at this post n i'm thinkinh..."o no. nother one of those 'i hav sinned' posts tht talk abt breaking a diet n gorgin on food." but this was better. finally an inkling of a REAL sin. :D y shud i bang my head for this?btw i dont need a reason for tht too. hehe. now if this Jhumpa lady looks so good n u REALLY like her..so much so tht uread her wierd book ;) thn so be it. vaise just for info. sakes...is she available? | ||
| alp October 14, 2003 08:54 AM PDT People & Heretic, I didnt comment on her writing, I liked it. Nothing new or mind blowing though. But she builds up the plot and gets us all excited, and then chickens out. Short stories are difficult to write. But its easy to write 10 incomplete ones compared to one good one with a punch! To tell you the truth, I enjoyed Ms. Roy. She left me satisfied and contemplating about the story. Aqua: I loved that divorce story. She did a good job. Now if I only knew what happened next. Manoj: That could be the part of my sin.;) Nobody: I couldnt hound Jhumpa, but I can bug you...tell me tell me! G: Teeth?? what are you, her dentist? All pics I saw, had her mouth closed..maybe thats y! Amit; Oh no amit, U shud read it and then tell me what you think. | ||
| heretic October 14, 2003 08:13 AM PDT Dunno abt Jhumpa looking good, but she writes much better than Ms Activist Roy... whose style is full of cliches--right from the verdant valleys of kerala to people waking up to the cock's crowing :D that was one helluva funny thing mon. We'll say the same of u once u've won ur pulitzer... | ||
| AmitL October 14, 2003 05:10 AM PDT Aren't u 'Jhumpa'ing to conclusions,Alphaji?Book to book hai,ending not being there,is good for u-make three guesses,and select the best one. Er,are u sure u read the last pages,or just thought it's over,when it was just the Preface??:) | ||
| Nobody October 14, 2003 03:35 AM PDT I haven't read it yet. It happens with me and very popular writing. But will try it soon! Oh Alpha, and another thing I wanted to tell is | ||
| aqua October 14, 2003 02:35 AM PDT i loved that book. jhumpa is a great writer. my fav story is the first one (the couple about to break up). just loved the way she built up the story. almost all my pals like that story best too. what about you? | ||
| Gorgeous October 14, 2003 12:51 AM PDT Lol!! Alpha...arrey she doesn't even look good! her teeth stick out, don't u think? | ||
| Patrix October 13, 2003 10:38 PM PDT Haven't read her yet...but yup, she definitely is a looker :) | ||
| Matrix October 13, 2003 09:03 PM PDT I don't have problems with half completed books either...else imagine readin more no. of pages!!! if the story were to b completed :(:(. And Alphy wots with this female writer lookin good?? is that the reason u read her books ??? me confused *fingers overmy face, Manoj (Bharat) Kumar style* | ||
| starfest October 13, 2003 08:58 PM PDT golden felt pen se likha hua naam chalega? I dont particularly have a problem with half finished stories, it lets you make up your own ... even though I guess the characters "belong" to the author and if they dont come up with a justifiable ending, why would you? .... | ||
| alp October 13, 2003 05:29 PM PDT *touched* Wo (b)hi sahi..par mera naam hona chahiye..golden aksharon mein. | ||
| elaichi chai October 13, 2003 04:55 PM PDT agar mere haath mai hota toh do teen Pulitzer de deta ..anways ..kya kaam hai Pulitzer ka ? ...wont a cheap 20 Rs trophy from Kandivali (Bombay suburv) do ??? | ||
| alp October 13, 2003 04:28 PM PDT EC gonchu! Trust me, I'm NOT recommending this one! But you know, its an easy read...can finish it off quickly and you'll still feel unfinished. As for my paap, I'll tell you if I get a Pulitzer for this story. | ||
| elaichi chai October 13, 2003 03:58 PM PDT will someone please stop recommending books !!! ..my list of things to read is ever expanding ..and abhi toh i am, stuck on my current one ..moving onli a few pages a day ...ek aur book jo padhna padega kabhi n kabhi ...oi living hell ...kya chupa rahi hai jo itna ghinona karm hai ??? | ||
| wandy October 13, 2003 03:53 PM PDT didn't read the book...not sure will now...though some books are like this only ~ leaving the end for the reader to decide...never really liked such books either...like an ending...!! ~ though one doesn't get what one wants in life always...so be it!! takes all sorts to make this world.... | ||
