Wild Wild World
I love the outdoors/nature/wilderness. I want to retire in the mountains. In India, I have hiked in the Himalayas. While nothing can even come close to that experience, I have realized that every place is unique- waiting to be explored. We've done quite a bit of back-country hiking (far away from the maddening crowds).
Lessons learnt..
-All vague sounds from bushes and trees are not bears.
-All small animals scurrying away in the dark are not baby bears.
-Funny noises from inside the tent are snores, not rattle snakes.
-Its easy to dig a hole, but very difficult to aim your poop into it.
-Its better to wash your ass with water than carry used TP out.
-Smashed bread & cheese two days old doesn’t taste very good, even if you are tired and hungry.
-Its better going downhill than uphill.
-Distances are deceiving. Just two more miles is quite a bit of a haul.
-When you are ready to swim, the water is frigid.
-It always will rain when you don’t want it to.
-When you cant have shower for days, you learn to use 'wet-ones' to clean critical areas.
-Breaking the handle of your toothbrush saves a few ounces.
-You back-pack never gets lighter by the 3rd day after you’ve eaten some food.
-You will never find what you need when you need it. Hold on Mr. Bear, I’m searching for the bear-spray!
-Lastly, you are hooked to wilderness, there's no cure! Sightseeing trip to NY..naah!

| alpha October 2, 2003 06:07 PM PDT oh wow Patrix! Himalayas is great. We hiked around Harsil. Gangotri-Gaumukh. Auli. Mana village. India-Nepal border. Also mostly along Ganges.. No Beas!:( yesss! Cold as hell was the water. No bears there. But soooo much fun. hey! thanks for the compliment.*blushing* love ur stuff too. | ||

| patrix October 2, 2003 05:54 PM PDT nice trekking tips...where in the heavens did u trek in the Himalayas..i did the Manali-Solang Nallah-Khardungla bit..really tiring but overwhelming ecstastic at the destination...never met any bears though...BTW ever experience the numbess ur ass gets when u dip in in the ice cold Beas and the ppl downstream think of it as holy water..hehehehe....pissing icicles can be a painful task too....man, i must admit..u the funniest blogger i have met so far. | ||

He will deal with the faster one after the slower one is finished. they can outrun u anytime. Most of the bears dont care about us humans..if they attack for some reason, just hope u dont meet them in heaven. | ||

| Matrix October 2, 2003 05:21 PM PDT To add some: - No matter how many pairs of socks u carry, ur feet end up stinkin. - It is easy to get lost even with the topographical map and compass - It is always 10 deg colder than ur sleeping bag permits - U can carry 10 gallons of water, u'll always run out of it - The bag infact gets heavier by day 3. - The ground beneath ur tent is never flat (only ur tent) | ||

Its too good..worth every moment spent inside the walls, seeing the river. the view from the top which thousands of tourists see is nothing compared to the experiences below. *deep sigh* | ||
